Relief Ship For Bases
(Special Crspdt N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, October 2.
The Royal Research Ship Shackleton will leave Southampton this week on her annual relief voyage to bases of the Falkland Island Dependencies Survey. Among the scientists and technicians will be a New Zealander. Flight Lieutenant Warren David Lincoln, of St. Helier's Bay, Auckland, who has been seconded from the R.A.F. to pilot one of the survey’s De Havilland Otters.
Underground Radio. A Washington radio station is building an auxiliary underground studio, complete with a 5000-watt transmitter, retractable aerial tower, bunks, and medical supplies, as a means of providing broadcast facilities during nuclear attack.—Washington, October 2. Private TV in Canada.— Canada’s first privately-own-ed television network presented its inaugural programme last night on eight stations across the country.— Toronto, October 2.
Troops Withdraw.—French troops have started to withdraw from the town of Bizerta back into their base installations, under the agreement reached with Tunisia last Friday.—Bizerta, Oct. 2.
