Submissions To Committee
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 2. The Parliamentary Labour Bills Committee will start hearing submission- on the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill tomorrow. The bill abolishes the present provisions for compulsory membership of trade unions. The first witness before the committee tomorrow will be Mr P. J. Luxford, secretary of the New Zealand Employers’ Association. There is already a big list of organisations arid private citizens who want to make submissions on the bill. The committee, by a majority vote, last week decided to exclude newspaper reporters from its hearings. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) subsequently gave notice of motion in the House of Representatives that the newspapers be admitted, and the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) promised to consider it. i A final decision ons opening the hearings to the newspapers is expected to be made as soon as the committee meets tomorrow.
