Hoardings
A clause in the Counties Amendment Bill that will be widely welcomed gives county councils power to prohibit hoardings. Hitherto county authority has extended only to the regulation of hoardings; the bill will permit prohibition, a power already pos-
sessed by municipalities. Nowhere are unsightly hoardings more conspicuous than in the country, where, indeed, their presence may amount to despoliation of natural beauty. County councils should not hesitate to use their new power firmly.
