In a few days work will begin on the new five-storey Moran building in the Lower Octagon which will house the Roman Catholic community centre. Tile building will be 55ft high and will include a chapel, lounge and assembly hall and cafeteria. It will also have rental shop and office epace, and is expected to be finished in about 18 months. * * The total flow space of .the building will be more than 18,000 square feet and on four of the five storeys pre-cast moulded panels with white quartz aggregate formed from steel moulds will give a rich sculptured pattern. The building will be of flat slab construction without beams. This will simplify partitions, services, pipes, and wiring. Electrical coils embedded in the floor slabs will provide heating. Below the ground floor at the Octagon level, the basement will be accessible from Bath street and will incorporate extentions to shops as well as storage space.
