FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A ridge of high pressure lies across the North Island and a north-westerly airstream covers the Tasman Sea and the South Island. Forecast:— Nelson, the Marlborough Sounds and Central Marlborough.—North to north-west winds, strong about the sounds; elsewhere light at first but freshening during the day; cloud increasing and some scattered showers developing late in the day, chiefly about the hills; temperatures moderate. Outlook: scattered showers. Buller and Westland.—Moderate to fresh northwest winds; scattered showers developing during the day; temperatures moderate. Outlook: showers. Kaikoura coast and Canterbury.—Moderate north-easterlies about the coast; fresh northwesterlies inland, becoming strong at times later in exposed places; partly cloudy with mild afternoon temperatures.
