President de Gaulle today watched the start of the world ploughing contest a: Grignon, near Paris, in which 32 ploughmen from 17 countries, including New Zealand. are competing, the British United Press reported The entrants deep-ploughed up to half an acre of stubble, tn -a maximum time of two hours and a half.
Tomorrow, they are allowed up to three hours to plough a similar area of grassland to medium depth. Points are awarded on the area ploughed, straightness of furrows and their depth The New Zealand entrant is Mr Alan Magson. aged 39. from Rokeby, Mid-Canter-bury.
