LONDON SHOPS
Praise By U.K. Visitor
London is the best shopping centre in the world for clothes, according to the wife of the secretary general of the Automobile Association of Britain, Mrs Joan Kelly. Although she spends much of her time travelling, Mrs Kelly buys all her clothes in London. In Christchurch yesterday she had particular praise for the variety and quality of off-the-peg clothes in London stores, and the comprehensive range of sizes. The nature of her husband's job requires much travelling, and Mr and Mrs Kelly have been away from home for an average of two months a year for the last 10 years. But their present world tour is for four months and they have already been to Dublin and Sicily this year. On tour, Mrs Kelly leads a busy social life, attending receptions and similar functions. Sc when she and her husband have their annual holidays, they spend them at home to have a rest from travelling. The counle have two daughters. The elder, Lorna, aged 21, work for an International organisation in London, where she can use her fluent knowledge of French and German. Jane, aged 18, has just begun study at the london secretarial College. Both girls learnt European languages by spending many school holidays in homes on the Continent, on exchange with girls who stayed in Eng. land with Mr and Mrs Kelly. Mr and Mrs Kelly will leave New Zealand for Sydney on October 7. After a month in Australia, they will
return home in time for Christmas, through the Near and Middle East
