The Church And Disarmament
The church had a definite responsibility to provide leadership in nuclear disarmament said the Rev. G. Falloon at a panel discussion organised by the Youth Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament on Saturday evening. The panel comprised Mr Falloon, the Rev. J. C. Thornton, Mr J, C. Pettier and Mr J. Hayman. “If weapons of sufficient destructive force were used in a war the Christian should not support such a' war,” said Mr Thornton. “I hope I will never be brought to believe that it would be right to drop an H-bomb on any pf the world’s cities.”
Mr Pether said the principle by which the church had in the past judged wars right or wrong could not justify a nuclear war.
Now that the knowledge of nuclear weapons manufacture was widespread any major war would now be fought with nuclear weapons, said Mr Hayman.
