People In The Play
Cricketers will be following with interest the performances of Peter Sharp, of Otago, this season. One of the few genuine off-spinners in New Zealand, Sharp is on the verge of his first-class career. He took five for 84 against the M.C.C. team in the South Island Minor Associations’ game last season.
The West Indies cricket all - rounder, Garfield Sobers, has arrived in Australia, where he will play Sheffield Shield for South Australia. Sobers, who scored more than 1000 runs and took 144 wickets m Lancashire League cricket this year, has been engaged as coach of the Prospect District Club in Adelaide for one season. He will leave Australia on February 14 to play in the West Indies-India series early next year.
