At present Newcastle is the only centre where the University offers courses in Latin and Greek. Pass and honours courses in Latin or Greek are offered to undergraduates in the Division of Arts, and there is provision for an honours course in Classics for students reading both languages. Applicants should have a good honours degree and a taste for scholarship. Experience in university or sixth form teaching would be an advantage, and it would assist the University if candidates would list their scholarly interests and any papers published or accepted by learned journals. The successful applicant will take up his duties in March or September, 1962.
