Extension of the present light industrial zoning at the corner of Wairakei and Breens roads to include new land to be bought by Lichfield (N.Z.), Ltd., has been approved by the Waimairi County Council. The council was told that the company already had an area of three acres zoned light industrial for its proposed new shirt factory, and required more land to allow a better lay-out for its factory.
Dog Racing.— Permission to build a track for dog racing on Mr J. Barker’s property in Lower Styx road. Brooklands, was granted to the Christchurch Greyhound Rac. ing Club. The club was also given permission to hold Sunday meetings on the track. New Pavilion.— Plans and siting of a pavilion for the Morrison Avenue Bowling Club were approved. Name Changed.— The name of Elderslie street, Avonhead, was changed to Staveley street.
Presentation.—Mr A. W. Cooper, of the council’s outside staff, was presented with a stereophonic radiogram in recognition of his 40 years’ service with the council. Loan Approved.—A loan of £2OO from the general account was approved to provide olayground equipment at the Highsted-Sawyers Arms road reserve. The council decided to apply to the Commissioner of Lands for a similar amount from the Counties Land Subdivision Fund to provide playground equipment at Nunweek Park.
New Flats.— The council decided to advise Mr Ah Chung that the proposed Ham Court multi-storeyed flat project would be required to be erected “in accordance and in compliance with the council’s building by-laws.” Mr Chung had asked the council if it was enforcing a building line restriction on the project. because if the flats were built too close to the Waimairi road frontage he was afraid they would shade his two houses and sections. Planning Scheme.—Places where the public could inspect the council’s district planning scheme were approved. Scout Hall.— The Waimairi Scout and Cub Group was given permission to erect a scout hail at the corner of Clyde and Morley streets. Fire Season.— Public notice will be given of the council’s intention to declare a closed fire season from October 1,
1961, to April 30, 1962, in the county fire district, with the exception of specified areas.
Barnes Dance.—The Canterbury Taxi Proprietors’ Federation congratulated the council on its decision to provide a Barnes dance pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Fendalton road, Clyde road, and Memorial avenue. £lO Gift—A gift of £lO was approved towards a district presentation to Constable T. W. Round, of Riccarton, who is soon to retire.
