The Christchurch Centre .Country Women’s Institute celebrated its twenty-second anniversary recentlv wh°n the president (Mrs W. Mason) welcomed guests and members. Speciallyinvited guests included the Canterbury Federation president (Mrs L. M. Kellaway) and a Dominion councillor (Mrs C. D. Newton). Guests received sorays and gifts made bv the centre’s arts and crafts circle.
The cake was cut by Mrs N. Candy, and Mesdames J McNaughton and F. Small lit the candles and blew them out. The cake had been made and iced by Mrs L Walker. Mrs Mason presented the following annual trophies: Candy Rose Bowl and Phylis Champion Trophy, Mrs R Pascoe: Mead Flower Trophy, Mrs C. Baird.
The entertainment circle gave a sketch entitled “The Dummy,” and musical items. Mrs N. Pickering sang a bracket of Scottish songs Mrs Kellaway thanked the centre members on behalf of the guests for the afternoon, and congratulated Mrs W Boater on gaining first prize in the cooking and preserves section of the recent Canterbury Federation spring show.
