DEATH AFTER COLLISION
Motor-Scooter Rider
The rider of a motorscooter was fatally injured in a collision with a motorcar in Linwood avenue about 7 a.m. yesterday. She was: Wendy Grace Watson, aged 24, of 198 England street. Miss Watson was a staff sister at the Christchurch Public Hospital. Her parents live at No. 6 R.D. Winchmore, Ashburton. Miss Watson had left to go on duty when the collision occurred a short distance from her home. The car was driven by Stanley Murray Wardle, aged 32. a waterside worker, of 1015 Lower Styx road. Brooklands. The police are anxious to interview anyone who saw the accident. Miss Watson had an out-
standing career in nursing She began her training at the Christchurch Hospital on September 25. 1956. and gained honours in nursing, medicine, and diatetics. In the final examina’ions she was awarded the Acland prize for being top of her class She gained several other prizes during her training Miss Watson graduated last year. She went to Whakatane, where she gained honours in her maternity examinations. She was one of the first women to do this at that centre. Returning to Christchurch, she started her year as a staff nurse, but was made a sister in ward 15 before the year was completed. She was selected to do a ward sister’s course in Wellington and when she returned she became sister in wards 7 and 8 Miss Watson was educated at the Geraldine District High School and the Methven District High School.
