University In Wellingtqn (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Sept. 21. The Government has approved tenders being called for the erection of a new 10-storey arts library building for Victoria University. Wellington. Victoria University was facing a critical period with increasing rolls, and bo‘h the arts faculty and the library were in urgent need of relief. said the Minister ofEdimation (Mr Tennent). “The new building will be of 10 floors, eight above ground and two below. It has been designed by the university's architects so that eventually it can, if necessary. be wholly used as a library." said Mr Tennent. To begin, however, five floors would be devoted to library use, and the rest to lecture rooms, staff studies, and seminar rooms, as well as laboratories for the psychology department. Included in' this latter group would be accommodation for the aipplied mathematics laboratory of the Department of Scien’ific and Industrial Research.

“I know it will be a source of gratification to the University Council, as it is to the Government, to know that a further stage has been reached in the development of Victoria University to enable it to cope with the growing demands being made on it," Mr Tennent said.
