BEEF BULL FAIR

Demand Eases At Gisborne

"The Press" Special Strvic* GISBORNE. Sept 17. Averages of Aberdeen Angus studs In the Gisborne district were generally lower when the Gisborne Stud Beef Cattlebreeders’ Association held its annual fair on Friday with a total entry of 123 bulls. The fair opened strongly and for the bulls offered in the first two hours of the sale there was good competition, with a top price of 413gns paid by a district buyer for G. V. Smith’s Progenitor 27 of Waitaria, winner of the pre-sale competition. A number of others sold between 300 and 400 guineas. Later the demand slackened and in the final stages of the sale only bulls from the bestknown herds could attract bids above the lOOgns level The fact was that too many bulls were offered, including some which fell well below the general standard. The Mangatu Stud sold four bulls at 242jgns T A. Witters 1 for 240gns the estate of D. P Cameron 22 at 238$gns G V Smith 9 at 234}gns. C. H. Cooper. Ltd., 11 at 21igns, Miss McLean and the estate W. McLean. 8 at 2111m*. and Mrs C. E. Matthews 16 at 200igns. Other breeders ranged down to a figure of 106gns. At the 1966 fair only one district breeder failed to get an average price in excess of 200gns
