RADIO LICENCE SYSTEM
“Evasion Almost Impossible”
A new mechanised system for the issue of radio licences, which makes evasion almost impossible, has just been introduced in Timaru. The system has been working for some time in some North Island areas, and will eventually be extended to the whole country. “Timaru listeners receive the new billing cards by post just before their annual radio licence fee is due,” said a Post Office spokesman yesterday. “The bill forms, which are divided into two parts, can be presented at any post office. Because the teller has simply to receipt one half of the form instead of having to write out a licence, the whqle transaction is . quicker and easier all round. “The new system, which is fully mechanised, makes the evasion of radio licences virtually impossible. By sorting the cards on a special code number, radio inspectors can find out quite easily what houses in each street do not have radio licences.”
