Air Pollution
Sir.—Continually we hear or read of and see the effects of smoke. Some authorities attribute lung cancer directly to smoking, others to air pollution of any and every kind, including fouled air from smokers. Meanwhile sufferers from smoke or smog-caused ailments are breathing under difficulties with little or nothing done to alleviate them by enforcing control on known factory offenders because households still burn coal. These latter contributors mainly cease in summer. Should it not be obvious and remediable when pollution continues from rubbish-burn-ing or factories?—Yours, etc. LEGAL ADVANCE.. September 15, 1961.
