N.Z. Bridge Titles

(NZ. Press Association) AUCKLAND. September 17. The New Zealand contract bridge championships at Auckland evolved into a battle between the Auckland team of B. C. Bell and the Wellington four of W. J. Hutchison this evening, when the championships entered the fourth session. Twenty-five teams from centres in both Islands sat down at the Auckland Bridge Club on Saturday to begin the annual team-of-four championship. They were welcomed by the president of the New Zealand Contract Bridge Association, Mr R. Evans.

Tlie championship lasts a marathon five sessions, stamina and concentration being considered to count almost as strongly as playing ability. Team places after the third session were: B. C. Bell (Auckland), 1878 points, 1; W. J. Hutchison (Wellington), 1837 J, 2; A. N. Lamox (Auckland) and Mrs H. Richards (Auckland), 1771 J (equal), 3; J. Cranswick (Auckland), 1764 J, 5.
