KNOCK-OUT CONTEST

Teams To Play Final

Two DjC.L. Shield teams, Sunnyside - Spreydon and New Brighton, will contest the final of the Christchurch senior Rugby knock-out competition. In the semifinals on Saturday they eliminated Technical-Shirley and Christchurch respectively, two of the top six teams in this season's competitions. Results were:— New Brighton 15, Christchurch 6. Sunnyside-Spreydon 11, Technical-Shirley 8.

Although holding a territorial advantage for touch of the game, Christchurch was unable to achieve much penetration and failed to score a try against New Brighton. The two forward packs had an even struggle for possession but the New Brighton players made greater use of their opportunities. The team held the lead throughout the game.

For the first 10 minutes Christchurch had only 13 men; it was mid-way through the first half before the team had a full complement.

For New Brighton, F Bishop scored two tries and G. Barrow one, W. Harris converting all three. B. Davis kicked two penalty goals for Christchurch. Six-man Scrum

Technical-Shirley was also two men ‘short for a period in its game with SunnysideSpreydon; for the first 30 minutes it played a six-man scrum. Little constructive play was forthcoming from either side but there was no lack of action.

Playing on its home ground, Sunnyside-Spreydon led, 11-3, at half-time, and although Teohnical-Shirley battled hard in the second half, it could not bridge the gao completely. For Sunnyside-Spreydon, A Cooper, M. O’Malley, and V. C. Sykes scored tries, P Owen converting one. D. Harvey and J. Hamilton scored tries for TechnicalShirley, the latter being converted by A. McNab. LOWER GRADES Fourth Grade.— Merivale 19, Poet and Telegraph 11. Under 18.—North Canterbury 18. Canterbury 8. Under 16 Canterbury 3, North Canterbury 3. Under 6st.—Canterbury A 12.
