Support For “Strike”
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. The New Zealand Fire Brigades’ Federation offered its full support to New Plymouth firemen in their present dispute with the New Plymouth Fire Board, said the secretary of the federation, Mr T. M. Hill, this evening. He was commenting on a report from New Plymouth that a modified firemen's strike was to start there tomorrow. Firemen will not attend fires on their days off. "The federation is prepared to offer its full support, and feels confident that it can arrange an early settlement without disruption,” said Mr Hill. However, the federation was amazed that a fireman who had his day off, and rightfully did not offer his service, was considered a partial striker.
