(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 1. The Dominion's leading authority on virus disease in plants, Dr. R. E. F. Matthews has been appointed to the newly-established chair in microbiology at Auckland University. He will take up his duties in February. Since 1956, Dr. Matthews has been senior principal scientific officer at the Plant Diseases Division of the D.S.I.R in Auckland. S.I. RAILWAYS RUGBY TEAM The South Island Railways Rugby team to play the North Island side at Palmerston North on September 16 has been announced by the selectors, Messrs D. Lucas (West Coast), T. Gray (Otago), N. Mannings (Southland) and S M Marshall (Christchurch). The team is:— Full-back, C. A. Isaacs (Otago, captain); wing threequarters. T G.
