Table Tennis Shield Games Next 'Week
/CANTERBURY'S table tennis representative teams will contest the Kean and Teagle Shield competitions on Monday and Tuesday, as a prelude to the holding of the individual events at the New Zealand table tennis championships at Lower Hutt Last season Canterburyreached the final of the Kean Shield before losing to Auckland. A fine win over Wellington in a semi-final was Canterbury's best effort, and the side was unlucky not to take the final also. The Wellington match was extremely close, and the final was played straight after. Canterbury will be fielding the same three players as last sea-on. J. Armstrong, T. R D Flint, and V. N. Brightwell. with the addition of B D. P Williamson. As the competition is for teams of three, Brightwell Is most likely to be omitted, as he has not had a good season Wellington, with the recent gain of the former Australian champion. Q. J. Jennings, apnears the hardest to beat. There will be no doubt that Northland will again win th-
Teagle Shield, as it has the best three women players tn the Dominion. Last season Canterbury, below strength, was beaten on a count-back by Hutt Valley in a semifinal. Canterbury will this season field Mesdames J Shadbolt, T. May. A. Williamson and Miss F. Inglis, with Mrs Williamson and Miss
Inglis replacing Misses C. Halliday and J. Ward-Holmes from last year's team. i On paper Canterbury api pears the strongest side, after , Northland, and it is to be , hoped that these two are in different halves of the draw. ; Mesdames Shadbolt, May and Williamson are all 1961 South ■ Island representatives, and i Miss Inglis has been highlyt placed on the national ranking list. -
