The General Manager will be the chief administrative officer of the Sydney Opera House Trust. He will be directly responsible to the Trust for the overall management, in accordance with the Trust’s policy, of the Opera House and its various halls and services. These W7ll comprise: (a) a hatll seating 3800 for concerts, pageants, conferences, etc., or 1700 for grand opera. (b) a ha I*l seating 1100 for dramatic presentations, intimate opera, conferences, etc. 1(c) an experimental theatre seating 430. suitable for drama. the screening of films, meetings, etc. (d) a hall seating 300 for chamber music, lectures.} meetings, etc. (e) a restaurant and grill-room and other public facilities. Halls (a), (b) and (c) wild be equipped with stage machinery of varying sizes and complexity and some of these halls will be fitted with simultaneous language translation equipment for the holding of international conferences. While the Trust is empowered to act as promoter, it is anticipated that various public and private organisations will make use of the halls in the Opera House and may promote various activities therein with the approval of the Trust. The General Manager, therefore, will need to possess a high degree of administrative ability with a knowledge and experience of business and public finance and public relations. Experience as a theatre executive would be desirable, but not essential. The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the New South Wales Public Service Act, 1902. as amended By subsequent Acts. The salary of the position will be determined according to the qualifieatidhs of the successful applicant who wiill be required to make himself available to the Trust as from April, 1962.
