RACING Dunray Picked For Hunt Cup At Ellerslie Today

"The Press’’ Special Service ir " AUCKLAND, August 25. Three miles over the Ellerslie country will be a severe test for the runners in the Pakuranga Hunt Cup tomorrow. The course, over 20 fences, is tough at the best of times. Having been thoroughly soaked by the rain of the last few days it is likely to test the various candidates to the utmost.

The presence of Dunray in the race has invested the Hunt Cup with particular interest. Two starts back Dunray woq the Wellington Steeplechase. Earlier he collected the Hawke’s Bay Steeplechase and altogether he has been the winter’s outstanding performer over country. Dunray is the top-weight with 11-10. That is a good deal more than any horse has carried in the Hunt Cup during recent years. On the other hand for the last 10 years or more there has hardly been a horse of Dunray’s quality in the field. It is very likely that Dunray will be opposed by 15 or 16 horses making the Hunt Cup field the biggest for many years. Overseas, with 11-9, is another of the notable candidates. Orelinb, from Otaki. Play Prince, Joy Boy and Lombard are also prominent in discussions on the race. Orelino has already shown his worth over the country. Play Prince and Joy Boy, however, will be new to steeplechasing at Ellerslie and Play Prince, an early fancy for the big race, went so poorly in a training display the other morning as to slip a good deal from favour. As well as being the big race on the programme the Hunt Cup will be the first leg of the T.A.B. double. Second Leg

Fair Filou, Otara, Phoenician, Beau Way and Commodore Roberts are notable in the second leg. the Jellicoe Handicap, a mile. The change to wet weather has suited Fair Filou and Phoenician and it has also been in Otara's favour.
