Port Labour Still In Short Supply

Three vessels were idle at Lyttelton yesterday because of a labour shortage. They were the Karu, which has Auckland cargo for discharge, the Pateke. with East Coast cargo, and the Kaitoke, with Australian cargo for discharge. Labour from . the Karu was transferred to load the Waimea. Railway trucks are still in short supply. Normal overtime was worked last evening. Seven Union Company Ships In Port Seven Union Steam Ship Company vessels were berthed at Lyttelton yesterday. They were the inter-island steamer, Rangatira; four intercolonial vessels, the Waimea, the Waipori, the Kaitoke, and. the Kawatiri; and two coasters, the Karu and the Korowai.
