BAN ON UNITY TICKETS

Australian Labour Party Move

(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) CANBERRA. August 24. The Australian Labour Party's Federal executive adopted a compromise plan this afternoon to enforce its ban on unity tickets in union election. A new directive says the Federal executive is determined that its ban will be enforced. It provides that: (1) Any AL.P. member whose name appears on a union election ticket with those of members of any other political party must publish an advertisement in a daily metropolitan newspaper immediately, saying he had no knowledge of the ticket, and did not agree to inclusion of his name. (2) The A.L.P. member must, when required, furnish a statutory declaration to the secretary of the State branch and/or the Federal secretary, in support of such denial. (3) Any AL.P. member who does not comply stall be expelled automatically. (4) AU States win promptly report to the Federal executive officers, action taken under the rule in all instances. The bid started yesterday by three senior Federal Parliamentary party leaders to persuade the executive to take decisive action against the Victorian executive broke down. Both Victorian and Queensland delegates had been instructed to oppose any attempt by the Federal executive to dismiss the present Victorian executive. The motion was carried unanimously by the 12 delegates from all States.
