Second Libel Action

Damages of £5O were today assessed by an Auckland jury in favour of Peter Graham Skinner, an electrician, of Kawerau against the Beacon Printing and Publishing Company. lAd.. of Whakatane, publishers of the “Beacon.”
Mr Justice Turner entered judgment for Skiinner who had claimed £lOOO damages for alleged libel.
The jury found that a report in the “Beacon” concerning an industrial dispute in Kawerau. on May 30, 1960. was defamatory of Skinner and that the report was not substantially true.
Mr R. B. Cooke, of Wellington, appeared for the "Beacon” and Mr J. H Dunn, of Wellington. with him Mr E. W. Henderson, of Auckland, appeared for Skinner.
