MINOR FIRES

About 6ft of paling fence was burnt when a rubbish fire got out of control on Mr D. Downs’s property at 7 Halswell road at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. The blaze was brought under control by one unit from the Sydenham station.

Two units from Sockburn and Central extinguished a sulphur fire at Kempthorne. Prossers chemical works at Hornby yesterday morning. Little damage was done. There were three chimney fires during the day. The first was at 646 Avonside drive, which was dealt with by engines from Central and Woolston. At 6.35 p.m., the New Brighton unit went to 107 Bexley road, and at 7.37 p.m., one unit from St Albans was called to 24 Browns road. None of the fires caused any damage.
