Net profit of Walker and Hall (N.Z.), Ltd., Auckand, silversmiths, recovered by £979, or 24.4 per cent, to £4993 in the year to April 30 after declining by £2BOO the year before. The result was reached after providing £lOOO more for taxation at £5300 and £693 more for depreciation at £1796.

It equals an earning rate of 6.1 per cent, on shareholders’ funds—£677o greater at £81,828. The steady dividend of 8 per cent takes £2560 and a transfer of £5OOO (none last year) has been made to reserves, which, after writing back £79 (£4l) in surplus tax, leaves a carry-forward £2488 lower at £7799.
