J. Beatty Runs Fast Mile (N Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. July 22 J. Beatty (United States), won the mile in 3min 59.75ec in the Anglo-American athletics meeting at White City, London, today. The result of the race was: J Beatty, 1; M. Berisford (Britain), 4:02.1, 2; J. Grelle (United States) 4:03.7, 3: D. A. F. Haith (Britain) 4:07.0, 4. Britain’s 4 x 440 yards relay team (N. Fitter, B. Jackson. R. O. Brightwell and A. Metcalfe) broke the Empire, European and United Kingdom national. records with a time of 3min 7sec. The United States beat Britain in the men's match by 122 points to 88. Britain beat the United States in the women’s match 56-50.
