RACECOURSE INSPECTOR
Mr F. G. Pine Appointed 152 Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 16. Mr F. G. Pine, a member of the Christchurch C. 1.8., has been appointed a racecourse inspector by the New Zealand Racing Conference. He will begin his new duties on Augus* 14 and will be stationed in Dunedin. Mr Pine was born in Dunedin 46 years ago. He joined the Police Force in Auckland in 1940 and after five years of wharf police work was promoted to the Auckland C. 1.8. In 1947 he was transferred to the Palmerston North C. 1.8. and was appointed a detective in 1952. In 1955 he was promoted to detectivesergeant and transferred to the Christchurch C. 1.8. Although Mr Pine has been largely concerned with investigations of offences under the Gaming Act during his service in Christchurch, his duties have also included general inquiries, among them several murder cases It was for <aie of these that he received special commendation. Dusky Oman Beaten (N2. Press Assn.—Copyright) BRISBANE, July 16. The New Zealand horse, Dusky Oman, carrying 8-5 third top-weight, could not handle the sandy saucer track at Albion Park and finished eleventh in a field of 13 in the seven furlongs and a half Two Thousand yesterday. Dusky Oman started well but thereafter was unimpressive.
The race was won by a debut starter, Phar Way, by 10 lengths in imin 29 I-iosec. breaking the course reeflW by 3-ssec.
