Motor Racing U.K. GRAND PRIX

Domination By Ferraris (N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LIVERPOOL, July 15. The works-entered Ferrari cars, which have dominated grand prix motor racing this year, came in first, second and third in the 14th British Grand Prixe at Aintree today. Wolfgang von Trips (West Germany) drove the winning car, Phil Hill (United States) was second, and Ritchie Ginther (United States) third. The world champion. Jack Brabham, drove a Britishbuilt works Cooper into fourth place. He drove a steady, skilful race in torrential rain. The New Zealander, Bruce McLaren, finished eighth. The race began in torrential rain and last-minute changes were made to fit wet-weather racing tyres. The conditions robbed the Ferraris of some of their advantage as the fastest cars in the race, and during the opening stage the Italian cars did not have everything their own way. Stirling Moss challenged early but began to slip back when the track dried out and finally was forced to retire with brake trouble in the 45th lap. As conditions improved, so did the speeds and towards the end the 1500 c.c. lap record of two minutes was equalled by Jim Clark, in a works Lotus, and smashed later by von Trips and Joakim Bonnier (Sweden), who was driving a Porsche. The lap record was finally claimed by Tony Brooks (Britain), in a 8.R.M., who clocked Imin 57.8 sec for an average speed of 91.68 miles an hour. In the world drivers’ championship von Trips now leads with 27 points. Hill is second with 25. Brabham has only 4 and McLaren 3.
