WORKERS IN INDUSTRY
159,902 Men For N.Z. Of 159,902 men engaged in manufacturing in New Zealand 44,153 are employed in Auckland. Christchurch has 21,445, followed by Dunedin with 10,403. This information is given in the half-yearly figures of the Labour Department The figures are for the period May 15 to October 15 last year, and are the result of a survey made of all establishments in which two or more persons are engaged or employed. liiere are 48,964 women engaged in manufacturing in New Zealand, and 18,294 of them are in Auckland. Christchurch has 7879 and Wellington 4781. Lower Hutt, which for the purpose of departmental statistics, covers all the Hud Valley, and part of Hutt county, has 10,189 men employed in manufacturing, and 3171 women. Wellington has 9879 mau, which is only 210 more than Hamilton.
