Inflation
Sir, Professor Philpott was reported as saying that inflation had benefited farmers. This is not correct For the genuine farmer inflation is the worst thing that can happen. The only ones to benefit from inflated land values are speculators and land agents. Farming is a very risky occupation. Many farmers have lost all their savings. Some people don’t like running risks; they take on a safe job with superannuation and invest their money in Government loans because they are a safe investment. These people should not complain when others who run risks get a bit of a lift.—Yours, etc.. ANTI-INFLATION. July 3. 1961.
