Hockey INDIANS AT BLENHEIM

Marlborough Loses, 0-18 (N.Z Press Association) [ BLENHEIM, July 4. ' The Indian Wanderers hockey team signalled its return to the South Island with a resounding 18-0 win against Marlborough this afternoon—the team's highest !score to date , Revelling in a warm, sunny day and a hard, true ground—[one at the best experienced on their New Zealand tour some of tlie players said after the game—they turned on a burst of speed and skill in the second half that literally left Marlborough standing while they rattled on 14 goals. At half-time things were not so bad for Marlborough with the score at only 4-0. partly because in the first spell | the Indians, playing into strong sun, took some time to settle down The star of the Indian team; was Darshan S ngh. playing' today at centre-forward instead of his usual place on I the wing. He scored nine goals. The speed of the Indian’s left-winger, Toppo, was too much for the Marlborough defence. As well as scoring l two goals himself, his; lightning work down the line, and his equally lightning passes were responsible for a< good proportion of the score ! For Marlborough, the goalie, A. Eatwell, was the man who seemed to have most to do| and he stood up well to a! testing time. The scorers for the Indians were Darshan Singh 9. B : Patil 3. Gurdev Singh 2. Toppo 2, Udham Singh, and, Madan Mohan Singh. The teams were:— Indian Wanderers.—Gajin-' der Singh, Udham Singh (captain), Sohan Lal, Desh Mukh, Charanjit Singh. Kiderasan, Maden Mohan Singh.
