Wearing breathing apparatus to counteract sulphur fumes, firemen from the Sockburn. Sydenham, and Central fire stations extinguished a fire in a bulk sulphur store at toe Hornby chemical works of Kempthorne. Prosser and Company, at 7.40 p.m. yesterday. Little damage was done. A unit from Sydenham was called to a fire in a car in Colombo street, Sydenham, at 12.30 p.m. The battery of the car. which is owned by Mr C. Redmond, of 462 Cashmere road, was damaged bv the fire

At 225 p.m units from the Central and Sydenham stations attended a fire in the wall of a portable office hut in the railway yards in Mowbray street. Slight damage was done to toe wall. A small fowlhouse at toe rear of 103 Cuthberts road. Aranui, was riirhtly damaged by fire at 235 p.m. The nrooerty is orouoied by M r R Kidd. Cne unit from Wools*on and another from the Centra! station attended

Severe damage to several rooms at the rear of the h-w of Mrs D Robinson, at 92 Lincoln road, was caused by a fire which broke out about 4.21 pm. The cause of the fire is unknown. One unit from headquarters and another from Sydenham attended the call.
