BREAD MONEY THEFTS

Police Making Inquiries Police are inquiring into the theft of a substantial sum of money from letter boxes in North New Brighton early on Monday morning. A complaint was made to the Central Police Station by a milk roundisman that bread and milk money and milk tokens had been stolen. A patrol car searched the Bower avenue-Palmers roadBaker street area without success. A baker said last night tost the thefts probably occurred about midnight. Householders who put money out before then had had it stolen. Those who got up early to leave out the money were not robbed. The thieves obtained a particularly good haul, as I bread money, ranging from '4s to more than £l, had i been put out bv scores of ■ householders for three I bakery firms that deliver to the area. ! The two milk roundsmen did not suffer such a heavy toss, as mostly’ tokens were taken. Thefts of breed and milk money and tokens are very prevalent in Christchurch. A point that causes considerable discussion is whether householders who are robbed still have to pay the milk and bread roundsmen or (Whether the roundsmen are the losers. It appears that householders would be well advised not to leave money in letter boxes.
