CAR AND VAN COLLIDE
Three Men Injured When a van and a car collided head-on on the Main West road, about half a mile west of the Yaldhurst Hotel about 7 pm on Saturday, the two drivers and a passenger escaped serious injury. The driver of the ear. Donald Fantham, of Waddington, and his passenger, Maxwell Kenneth Bethune, of 6 Telegraph road, Darfield. suffered head injuries. They were admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital, Mr Fantharh’s condition was reported last evening as comfortable, and Mr Bethune was discharged yesterday. William McLean, of West Melton, the van driver, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the casualty department of the Christchurch Hospital and discharged. Both vehicles were extensively damaged. The drive shaft of the van was snapped off and the front suspension was torn off and twisted back under the vehicle so that the rear was 4ft off the ground. The car was swung around by the impact and came to rest on the opposite site of the road.
