Tenancy Act
Sir,—l do not share "Another National’s’’ sympathy for the 1942 apartmenthouse owners. Many of them charge their tenan s “rack’’ rentals and make huge profits by exploiting the housing shortage. They do not refrain from taking "key money” and substantial deposits before their tenants move in. It is hard to get any repairs done and anyone who causes "trouble” is soon out on the street It is interesting to note that since the Tenancy Act came into force, the eviction rate has been very much lower than it was under the CoatesForbes Coalition Government. After one has seen the bailiff at work on a young family whose breadwinner was out of work through the skinflint policy ot the Government, one no longer believes in such a policy.—Yours, etc., DISILLUSIONED NATIONALIST. June 28. 1961
