Rifle Shooting Waihora Wins Vale Shield
Eight teams, representing the Belfast. Christchurch, Waihora and Kirwee Gun Clubs, competed In the annual teams' match for the Vale Shield on the Christchurch Gun Club's grounds at Yaldhurat on Saturday. The Christchurch club's sparrow clay championship was held in conjunction with the shoot. Cold, squally conditions added to the handicap of the smaller targets used In the competitions and there were few good scores. By registering the only possible, the Waihora shooter, L. J. Eden won the sparrow championship and was mainly rssponsilbe for his team taking the shield. J. Simpson was runner-up for the championship after a shootoff with L. G. BakSock. Each had scored 13 out of 15. The B grade was won by V. CUrtls with 11 out of 15. Results were:— Vale Shield.—Waihora (L. J. Eden 15. K. Busch, L. Blatrtiford and A. Tom son 10 T. Gebbie 11) 1; Belfast No. 2 (J. Gilmore 12, C. Mclvor 10, J. Simpson 13. C. Bisset 6. and W. Hamilton 9) 2; Christchurch No. 1 (S. W. Geddes 7, A. W. Fraaer 10. S. R. Marston 12. J. Berry 7, and L. G. Baldock 131, and Kirwse (C. W. Stott 12, E. 3. Pankhurst 10, H. C. Bloor 7. G. M. Gallagher 8 and B. G. Begg 12) equal 3. 15-Target Handicap. Possibles: D. Manning. L. G. Baldock. G M. Gallagher. On 14: L Ballinger, S. R Marston. A. Tomson, C. J. Malzard. 10-Target Handiscap: Possibles: D. Manning. S. R. Marston. T. Gebbie. L H. Feathery, On 9: W Matson. S. W. Geddes. A. W. Fraser. L G. Baldock, A. 3. Lancaster. The first-mlss-out was won by M. Giddens on the fourth target.
