WESTPORT PAPER CLOSES
(N.Z. Press Association) WESTPORT, July 2. The “Westport News,” the only newspaper printed in the Buller district, ceased publication today. The present proprietors have found it impossible to carry on in the face of rising production costs and an acute staff shortage. The newspaper, published daily. was established as the "Buller News” in 1872, the name being changed in 1879. with a change of ownership, to the “Westport News." It had been operated by the present company since July, 1945.
