ANGOLAN POLICY
Defence By Salazar (N.Z.P.A -Reuter— Copyright) LISBON, July 1. The Portuguese Prime Minister (Dr. Salazar) said yesterday that there was “not the least hope” of Portugal acceding to the United Nations Security Council's resolution of June 9. which called for the cessation of "repressive measures" in Angola. He called the demand a ‘‘theatrical attitude by the Security Council" and said it "gravely offends the duties of a sovereign State.” “Angola is Portuguese land,” the Prime Minister told the National Assembly. “Whatever may be the difficulties we find in our way. and whatever sacrifices we have to make to overcome them, I see no other attitude to adopt but to continue.”
Dr. Salazar said the situation in Angola could become a threat to peace and international security if some United Nations members decided “to pass from the political and financial help they are giving into direct help with their own forces agains' Portugal in Angola.”
