COLOMBO PLAN
Kennedy’s Message (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) HYANNIS PORT, (Massachusetts), July 2. The Colombo Plan had become "a symbol of the economic aspirations of hundreds of millions of people in South and South-east Asia," President Kennedy said in a special message yesterday. It "illustrates well the type of self-reliance and mutual co-operation—learning to help each other—which the United States particularly endeavours to further through its own foreign aid programme.” The other plan, between the United States and Pakistan, "stands as firm evidence of the friendly relations existing between our two countries.” The Australian Prime Minister, Mr Menzies, said that Australia’s contribution to the Colombo Plan was £36,794,000.
