Thomson Breaks Record (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) NOTTINGHAM, June 29. The Australian golfer, Peter Thomson, broke the course record with a 66 to share the lead after the first round of the Dunlop £6OOO tournament on the Hollinwell and Coxmoor courses at Nottingham today. In a day of broken records, the British professional. Bernard Hunt, equalled Thomson's 66. Earlier. Len Woodward (Australia) .shot a 67, breaking the course record by one stroke. At Hollinwell, New Zealand’s R. J. Charles, who won the Bowater tournament, shot a disappointing 73—37 and 36. Frank Phillips was another Australian to the fore—he went round in 68. to share third place with 54 holes to Play. The British open champion. Kel -Nagle, who on Tuesday finished second in the Bowater £3OOO tournament at Sunningdale, Berkshire. today had a 70. Each competitor plays 18 holes over the Coxmoor and Hollinwell courses. Then the leading 40 and those tie-ing for 40th place will contest •he final 36 holes on Saturday. Thomson today played excellent golf. After a 34 for the first nine, he came home in 32. with birdie twos at the eleventh and sixteenth holes. His round of 66 was an amazing nine under par on the 6504-yards course. He was three under on the first nine, and six under coming in.
