CEASE-FIRE IN LAOS
Compromise Possible (N.Z.PJi -Rea ter—Copyright > GENEVA, June 30 East and West moved towards a compromise yesterday on sending equipment to the International Control Commission for policing the cease-fire in Laos, the British United Press reported. The British and Russian co-chairmen of the Laos Peace Conference in Geneva met representatives of the commission on the West-j em demand that the commission be given the necessary equipment for truce supervision. A British delegation spokesman said the twohour meeting found common ground, but no final agreement was worked out how many helicopters, light aircraft and vehicles would be supplied. The spokesman said the conference agreed that the British delegation would produce a draft message which would be the subject of further discussions. The co-chairmen, Mr Malcolm Macdonald IBritain) and Mr Georgi Pushkin fßussia) will meet again later. Some reports suggested that the Russians were in a reasonably co-operative mood at yesterday’s meeting. In the past, the Russians have firmly opposed the dispatch of equipment and fresh instructions to the truce commission.
