‘Revolution’ Plans Discovered

</V.Z Press Association—Copyright) ISTANBUL, June 30. General Cemal Gursel’s regime has uncovered a revolutionary plot timed for next month’s referendum on the Constitution, it was announced last night.

An official communique said counter-revolutionaries had planned a “new bloody move.” The referendum is due to be held on July 9. General Gursel came to power when he overthrew the regime of Mr Adnan Menderes, the former Prime Minister —one of the members of the former Government and National Assembly now standing trial—in a bloodless coup on May 27. 1960. According to the communique. a declaration found on Ciftci said: “When the time comes the signal will be given to you. No force will be successful to stop this movement. If any soldier uses arms, do not hesitate to kill first the traitor officer who commands him. Then kill the soldier." The communique was signed by Lieutenant-General Cemal Tural, Martial Law Commander in Instanbul. who said the movement concerned was of the type wanted by “bad forces whose roots are abroad." The pamphlet found on Ciftci disclosed that the movement had been prepared for some months. Similar pamphlets had been distributed all over the country.
