New Wharf May Be Needed
(N.Z Press Associatton) NEW PLYMOUTH, June 11. If a commercial oil field was found in Taranaki a new wharf for tankers alone would be needed at Port Taranaki, the chairman of the Taranaki Harbour Board (Mr H. E, Blyde) said. He understood that two tankers a week would be needed to take Taranaki oil to New Zealand's £20.000.000 oil refinery at Whangarei or to Australia to be refined. If that was the case a third wharf for tankers would be needed at New Plymouth, he said. The development of the third wharf would probably be assisted by tests now being carried out for the board on a hydraulic model in England, Mr Blyde said.
