HIGH WINDS AT TE AROHA

Newspaper Boy’s Predicament

“The Press’ Special Service HAMILTON. June 9. Two paper boys were blown from their bicycles in Te Aroha during high winds recently. With the determination worthy of a ponv express rider of old, 10-year-old Christopher Whittingham cycled out against the wind to deliver his papers. He had gained a hardfought 10 yards when a gust of wind threw him from his bicycle. He flung himself on his papers and clutched them to prevent them being blown away. Then he found he had a “tiger by the tail." If he moved he would lose all his papers. He lay spreadeagled on the road not knowing what to do. Some papers escaped his clutches and went sailing back the way he had come. The agent, a Te Aroha stationer. Mr J. Sullivan, saw the papers scudding past his shop and wondered what had happened. It was still dark, so he used his car lights to search, and found Christopher still clasping his papers on the road.
