i Fielding a much stronger j pack of forwards who won a I lot of the ball, St. Bede's College beat Xavier College 11-3 at the Xavier College ground on Saturday It was only in the last 15 minutes of the game that Xavier started to tire and it was in this period that St. Bedes scored eight of its points. For much of the game Xavier held a territorial advantage but lacked the finish to score. The teams were:— St. Bede’s College.—C C. Fulton; D. A. Horn, A. C. Alfeld. B. M. Keen; M. J Tunniclitf. R. C. Watkins; J. P. Solia; M. Brownlee; A. J. Collins. P. D Cunningham, B. J. Neilson, M. O. Moran; K. F. Foley. B. R. Dobson. A F. Gibson. Xavier College.—p. Roberti son; B. Dobbs, B. For the first spell the teams were evenly matched and with the backs prepared to throw the ball about there was some enterprising Rugby, The Xavier first five-eighths. G. Feary, did some good work evading the St. Bede’s loose forwards and his frequent cross kicks were well placed. He was the pick of the Xavier College backline, although the wingers, Dobbs and Pasfield, both made good runs when given the chances. Watkins and Horn were the best of the St. Bede's backs and the latter scored a good try after outpacing his opposite number. A feature of the game was the excellent line kicking by the full-backs. Never Gave Up Although giving away weight the Xavier forwards never gave ! up. Grant and Rodgers were lin the thick of things all day ' and Doody and Renwick were j never very far from the play. ! Doody, especially, did great I work in upsetting the St. Bede’s i inside backs. | Probably the best forward on the ground was Moran, the St. • Bede’s breakaway. His consistent following up was rewarded by a good try, which virtually gave St. Bede’s the game. Cunningham jumped well in the line-outs but after he had taken the ball well over the heads of the oposition he lo>t |it to the Xavier forwards. Brownlee. Collins and Foley were other forwards to impress. Tries for St. Bede’s College were scored by Horn and Moran. Fulton converted Moran's try and Watkins kicked a field goal. Feary kicked a penalty for Xavier College. The referee was Mr F. B. Campbell.
