Canterbury’s division n badminton representatives made a successful start to the 1961 season when they beat Otago 10- at the Skellerup Hail on Saturday evening. Canterbury had a slight advantage In men's events and in mixed doubles Last season Otago won this match. 13-3, at Dunedin. Outstanding players for Canterbury were B. Wylie and Miss M. Miller each of whom won three matches Results (Otago names first) were:— Men's Singles—E. Cleveland beat R. Hall, 12-13, 15-7, 15-7; J. Randall lost to B. Wylie, 6-15. 2- G. Townsend beat M. Ford, 15-10, 12-15, 18-14; G. Dixon lost to P. Boatwood 15-11, 1-15. 5-15 Women's Singles.—Miss A. Rogers lost to Mrs M. Miller. 7-11, 8-11; Miss D. Kerse lost to Mis, N. Baty, 6-11. 5-11; Miss J. Fraser beat Miss M Benjamin. 11-1 11-5; Miss B Fox lost to Miss J. Saunders, 11-3, 4-11, 4-11. Men's Doubles —Cleveland and Dixon lost to Hall and Wylie, 11- 3-15; Randall and Townsend beat Ford and Boatwood, 15-12. 15-8. Womens Doubles—Misses Kerse and Rogers lost to Mrs Miller and Miss Baty. 11-15. 3- Misses Fraser and Fox beat Misses Benjamin and Saunders 15-12. 15-8. Mixed Double,.—Cleveland and Mis, Rogers lost to Hall and Mrs Miller 8-15, 5-15; Randall and Mu, Kerse lost to Wylie and Miss Baty. 2-15, 2-15, Townsend and Miss Fraser beat Ford and Mias Beniamin, 15-11. 17-15; Dixon and Miss Fox lost to Boatwood and Miso Saunders, 15-8, 18-18. 13-15. Canterbury won hy 10 matches to 8.
